Los Angeles Movers-Moving Checklist

Los Angeles movers is happy to present this moving checklist to help ease the process.  Moving can be a stressful time in your life.  With some planning and this checklist you will be ready to take control and feel prepared.

Before You Pack

De-clutter.  Get rid of all of the stuff that you have accumulated over the years.  Moving is a great time to have a yard sale.
Write down your new address and keep it in your purse or wallet for reference.
Next time your at the post office, fill out the change of address forms.
Order all of your packing supplies including; boxes, tape, packing peanuts or packing paper, etc.
Start to eat all of the fresh and frozen food that you have in the house.  Only buy the essentials so you won’t be throwing away a ton of food.

About a Month Before Los Angeles Movers arrives…

Call or email movers-losangeles.net and get your moving day scheduled.
Make sure that you mention any large items like packaging for your plasma tv.
Start Packing.  Label each box with the room that it is from and its contents.  Make sure to mark any boxes fragile that need special handling.  Try not to pack boxes more than 50 pounds and make sure that you use the proper tape on the boxes so that they will be secure.
As you pack make a note of any items that are extra valuable that need to have special valuation coverage added by Los Angeles Movers.
Back up your computers.
Send anything you would like cleaned and ready to go in your new home to the cleaners like drapery, linens, rugs, etc.
Start calling all of your accounts and notifying them of your impending move. Don’t forget your bank, credit cards, insurance, HR at work, utilities, doctor, magazine or newspaper subscriptions, etc.

About a week before Los Angeles Movers arrives…

Finish as much packing as you can.
Start making a pile of things that you are going to personally move like jewelry, important paperwork etc.
Start dismantling all of the stereos, tv’s, beds, anything that will save the movers time will save you money.
Notify the building managers that you are using Los Angeles Movers.  If necessary reserve an elevator for moving day.  Many buildings will stop an elevator from going to other floors and will line the elevator with moving blankets to protect it from any damage.  Also reserve, if possible, a parking space for the moving truck.
Fill any prescriptions that you will need for the next week or so.

Almost there…

Unpack and clean the refrigerator at least 24 hours before you move.  Make sure to prop the doors open so that you don’t have mold growing.

Have utilities turned on in your new home a day or more before the move. (gas, water, utilities)
Pack a separate box or bag with linens to make your bed.  Mark them to unload first so that you can keep track of them.

Moving Day, Los Angeles Movers arrives, Finally!

Plan to be there for the entire time it takes you to move.

Go over the inventory with the crew manager and sign any required paperwork.
Once the truck is packed be sure to do one last look through the house to make sure nothing got left behind.

Unpack your valuable items first. eg. art, silver etc.

There are important things you should keep with you during the move.  You should have your keys, a map or directions to the new home, money, insurance policies and agents contact info, pets, prescriptions and medicine, important records or documents, photo albums, and personal hygiene items.

After you get settled…

Turn off utilities at your old address.
Get a new drivers license.
Order new checks with the new address on them.
Check the mail at your old home to make sure it has gotten forwarded properly.
