Tips to help you move

Tips to help you move

The complexity of moving can be simplified if you just take things up one after the other. Here is a list of things that you should consider one by one to achieve a simplified and less stressful move.

• Start using up food in your storage room and refrigerator – If you have a stock of food in your storage room/cabinet, refrigerator or freezer, start using them up before your move so you won’t pack them anymore. It is necessary that you consume your frozen goods as these would spoil during the move. Movers Oakland suggests that you bring only what you need to bring so that you will have to pack lesser items which will then be moved by them. The lesser the stuffs you bring, the lesser you’ll have to pack, the faster the move, and the lesser you’ll have to pay Movers Oakland.

• Return the items you borrowed or loaned. Weeks before the move, return the stuffs you borrowed from friends or books you borrowed from libraries. It is better that you are cleared to move than to think at the back of your mind that you still haven’t returned stuffs to your friends.

• Is your vehicle in good running condition? Schedule a maintenance service check like an engine tune up just to ensure you arrive at your new home without stopping along the way due to mechanical problems.  Make sure that your car contains emergency items like first-aid kit, blankets, battery booster, a couple of jugs of water, and a few non-perishable goods.

• Utility disconnections and re-connections. Allocate some time to contact your utilities provider and schedule the disconnection of your utilities and services at home. At the same time, also try to schedule when to connect your utilities in your new home.

• Transfer your memberships, medical records, school records, and bank accounts – It’s easy to forget when there are so many things to tie up, so you may want to make yourself a list of tasks to follow. In order to make the transition go smoother, there are some things you may have to establish before you close your old accounts like bank accounts. Contact your child’s school to get your child’s school records transferred.

• If you will be changing health care providers, do your research ahead of time and when you’ve found a suitable new provider, call your current provider for a record transfer ASAP, as that can sometimes take a while.

• Mail matters – Make sure you have your mail forwarded to your new address by filling out the “Change of Address” form at your local post office. This can also be done online at the USPS website.

I am a very dedicated store manager with 15 people on my leash in Oakland. Like many others, the rest of my family moved due to my work. We moved to Santa Clara when I was assigned as store manager there.

At first, we find moving to be tedious and frustrating. However as we come to learn of moving tips from friends and moving counselors from Movers in Oakland, things went well and bearable.
