Basic Guide About Postcard Mailing and Postage Types

As a business owner, you may already have heard about postcard mailing. This is one of the most effective and less costly ways to go about your marketing.

The idea here lies on the right printing company. Choose the one that can give you a mailing list, especially if you want to reach a broader market. Having more names on the list will increase the probability for your campaign to succeed.

Another factor that you have to consider is the type of postage that you are going to use. There are actually three in the selection. Choose wisely depending on the urgency of your campaign.

The Three Postage Types

This factor must also be planned out because you have to allot a budget for this. You need an overview of the total cost of your project before proceeding further. This way, you will know your limit and can adjust according to it.

1. First Class Mail

If you have a set date for an event that you want to announce through postcard mailing, you should opt for this type of postage. Nationally, it will be delivered within three to five days. It will only be a matter of one to three days if you’re targeting Southwest and California.

The US Postal Service or USPS will forward or return your mail, whatever is applicable, if the address of the intended recipient is outdated. This type of postage can be relied on even during peak seasons like the holidays.

2. Standard Mail

Standard Mail, also known as US Bulk Rate is most affordable but cannot be relied on in terms of delivery time. It is typically done from 10 to 14 days on a national level. It takes four to six days in the Southwest and also in California.

The USPS will not forward or return your mail if the address is incorrect. To access such feature, you have to pay additional cost and acquire the Ancillary Service Endorsement. It also doesn’t guarantee that the said delivery time will be followed. It usually takes longer during the peak season.

With such qualities, you should not use this kind of postage for time-sensitive materials. You cannot just hope for your mails to be delivered. No one really knows when will be the dates when there are too many mails that clog the postal service.

3. Non-Profit Organizations Rate

If you are running a non-profit organization, you can avail of a discounted service at the USPS. They offer special rates for such type of groups. You have to fill out an application form and wait for the USPS’ approval.

The timeframe is the same with the standard mail. To apply, you have to fill out and submit to them a Postal Service 3623 form. Have a representative sign on a company letterhead for additional request. Your application will then be submitted to the local post office.

You’ve already invested a good amount on postcard mailing, from printing to its delivery. It will not hurt to invest more to avail the best type of postage there is. By doing so, you will be giving the recipients the idea that you are a stable company. You will also give the impression that you value them and treat them the best way you can.
