So this is just for fun to determine why simple html would cause such a bad lockup / hang. I will probably report it to YouTube like you suggested. Thanks for the reply.

Troubleshooting in IE (While FireFox loads the same source fine):
1) Opening the page andq quickly pressing the “X” stop icon relieves the hang.
2) Removing all images from original source and saving would relieve the hang.
3) Reformating the source with tidy in HTML mode (while leaving the images) relieves the hang.

I troubleshot it a bit and determined the following:
The good email notices display a “Click here to download pictures…”
The bad email notice displays a “If there are problems with how this message is displayed, click here to view it in a browser…”
So Outlook times out out with the browser notice.
Also, the raw source code hangs Internet Exlorer similar to Outlook.

Try sending a message via the YouTube Forum to report this issue, if you can work out how to navigate through the ten layers of crap that Google has created.

Thanks for the video. I thought it was just me so I ended up throwing YouTube into Junk E-mail to stop the lockup. Then the issue seemed to go away (Subscriber Notifications) and then tonight we rented a movie on YouTube – and my receipt now locks up my Outlook….

Sorry to hear that.
It is definitely fixed for Outlook 2010.

I’ve been haivng this problem for several weeks, and it certainly hasn’t been fixed for me yet. I just tried it again last night (Outlook 2007), and it still crashes on YouTube Service emails. I’m using Windows Live Mail since, for some reason, that DOESN’T crash (as you say in the video). I prefer Outlook, though.

If you are using Windows 7, do this:
Right-click Desktop and select Personalize.
Select “Get more themes online link”
Go to Nature
Rainbows.
On a separate matter,
YT Email problem should be fixed for everyone now.
Outlook 2010 is fine for me.
Make sure to delete any old YT messages you may still have.

I have observed the same behaviour with the different types of messages.
Completely insane that it is happening, and typical of Google to be silent on the mater.
I reported the problem on day two (21st September) via Partner Support – no response since.

WHEREAS:
“Comment posted on VideoYYY”
“Comment pending on your channel ”
“UserXXX has subscribed to you on YouTube!”
“UserXXX just uploaded a video”
“Reply from UserXXX on VideoYYY”
behave Properly with the autopreview window open.
Thanks for the video saved me hours trying to find a fix. Now I can just JUNK FIle the appropriate messages!

“Userxxx sent you a message: re: VideoYYY…”
“Userxxx sent you a video: ”
“Userxxx sent you a playlist: ”
cause Outlook 2007 to Stop Responding!!!!!!

Same problem here. I just went into YouTube settings and switched it to “Do not send me any emails”. I can check YouTube directly if I want to see the messages posted.

I actually have done the very same thing myself for the last week and created the same rule as you.
It feels like David and Goliath dealing with YouTube. Unless you are one of the Massive YT Channels, you really have no hope of communicating with a real human being.

I had the same problem. Ive created a rule that sends all YouTube Service emails to the Junk folder. Its a crappy fix but it works. You can view the emails from there without a problem because it displays it in plain html code. The link to the avatar is the problem. YT need to get a grip, this has gone on too long now!

My Excel has the same problem since 2011 but is not necessarily related with YouTube. Every time I’m trying to save a new created spreadsheet I have over 80% chance to get “no response” and lose everything..

Happening to me as well. Whenever I open an e-mail message from YouTube, I have to wait for it to timeout, as it appears to be trying to load user’s profile picture but it can’t.

Happens to me too. Why haven’t they fixed this yet?

BTW this problem already happened with me a couple times in the past, it’s not only with youtube, it happens with any email that contains a deadlink and is being showed in HTML. It gets really annoying when people without avatars answer our comments or share a link, then youtube send us the email with the deadlink and baam!
Anyways, this is a paid program, inside outlook click on FILE -> HELP -> CONTACT US. Report the problem to them, explain that it only happens with dead links.

ok i have find out what is causing the problem, BUT have not found the fix yet.
this is a problem within OUTLOOK engine, when you try to load an email that contains a dead link the engine keeps trying to connect endlessly to that link and that causes the program to freeze, it will only unfreeze if it gets a response or the connection attempt timesout.
So the cause of the problem is because the timeout is too big, a total of 120 secs. And AFAIN there is no way to customize the timeout.
