I ran a phone company for 14 years and know why they charged for call
forwarding. In some instances when a device is being used for
call forwarding the call Averages are much higher.
Based on the Average user call volume and general termination rates
MagicJack cannot afford to give their service at the low price they do.
They have to use extreme strategies to offer such low rates. I wont go
into all the details but will mention Four strategies used by MagicJack.
One:
By giving such cheap rates A lot of people will tell their family and
friends about MagicJack thus in the end a lot of calls will be made
between 2 MagicJack users and these calls practically cost MagicJack
nothing.
Two:
Rapidly build a large client base so they get better rates for call
termination.
Three:
Cutting corners where ever possible and this includes analyzing call
records to block the most likely way one would abuse MagicJack’s service.
Like callforwarding for example or cutting off service if clients all
volume overly exceeds that average call volume
Three:
Offer super cheap rates lower than they can really afford to give and than
raise their rates once the number of new subscribers per month levels off.
I knew they were going to raise their rates because the initial offering
rate couldn’t possibly be profitable unless there are enough calls being
placed between 2 MagicJack devices.

If you have android or iphone, you can download the MJ app, and anyone who
calls your MJ number will automatically be routed to your cell phone, even
if the computer to which your MJ is attached is shut down (tres cool!).

yea thats bullshit i have 2 mj and use them not that mutch i give out the
one number on clist to sell stuff so idiots dont have my cell # i foward
each mj number to my cell its been that way for years no problems well last
night a guy calls me insted of fowarding to my cell i get a vmail email
from mj

I like my MagicJack, but Planters telephone company has, in the last few
months barred MagicJack. Seems I have to pay for calling people who have
Planters. Plus they have to pay much more to call us then to call others.
Example: People in our area pay .10 per minute to call Savannah, GA,
MagicJack numbers also listed in Savannah cost over $3.00 a minute to call.
Planters is only a mile away- kind of crazy I can call all over the country
free but cost me $10.00 per number to call 1 mile.

i test it and its not working but the other works fine i plug it in and it
wantes me to renew before i can see or do anything i do it and theres not
an option to foward the other number works fine still but i know it time to
renew and i dont want to lose the number because of advertising my number
for business i renew the other number and now my forwarding to my cell
quits working think its bull shit i dont want to install an ap on my cell
that only works in wifi and hogs more of batt/mem

I have used call forwarding from my MJ+ to my Ooma telo for years, and it
still works perfectly fine.

thanks, but I wanted to keep my old number. I don’t think that was an
option with GV. Anyway, this magicJack app seems to have solved the
problem. Thanks for your effort in wanting to help. It’s always
appreciated.

You can use Google Voice to forward calls to multiple numbers. All you have
to do is pay for a GV number and the service is free.

Also down the line they will charge for smart phone App because I signed up
today and they have different renewal date for smart phone App…Magic jack
sucks at least for people who have multiple magic jack numbers for business
purpose

But if you have multiple magic jack numbers for business purpose then I
don’t think you left with much choice other than getting rid of magic jack
and believe you me they will charge you down the line for Smart phone app
as well….I know because I did it (smart App) today and they have
different renewal date for that APP….

Actually, call forwarding is very important in my situation. Just moments
after I posted my comment above, I found an Android app for Magic Jack,
called Talk Free. That seems to do the trick. Just like what I had with
Vonage, it rings both my house phone (magicjack) and my cell phone at the
same time. With that feature, I never miss a call, no matter which phone
rings. Now I’m a happy camper.

Bare bones MagicJack works fine, I’m appalled that call forwarding is not
included for free. I’m seriously thinking of changing back to Vonage for
about 10.99 per month and get full features. For $50 a year more, it’s
worth switching back. Vonage customer service has been very good. I’ve been
with them for 7 years. MagicJack customer service is WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE
EVER. They even charge an annual fee for porting my number. That should be
a one time fee.

You have to look at it this way… magicJack still offers everything else
you’d expect. Call forwarding, while it’s nice, is not a necessity, at
least in my opinion. magicJack’s customer service is bad, and I wish they
would make improvements to it. I’m guessing you got lucky with Vonage
because I’ve heard some bad things about them in terms of ripping people
off, secretly signing contracts, etc. For a good comparison of BasicTalk vs

They’re not a scam. magicJack has been out for nearly six years. The owner
of magicJack also created TelSave in the 90s. If they were a scam, they
would’ve been shut down long ago.

I was using 6 different magic jack phone numbers for business. Now they
removed the call forward option on magic jack which is really bad for the
people who using multiple magic jack numbers as their business phone. I
spent whole Saturday with so called chat specialist and they ruined my
whole day. Now I regret the decision to use magic jack as my business
phone. Out of 6 phones I got rid of 2 phones based on the calls and I am
100% sure that down the line I won’t be using magic jack at all.
